Early Warning System

If any irregularities with regard to feed safety are not reported quickly, this has harmful consequences for people, animals and the environment.

Early Warning System
Early Warning System

With Early Warning System (EWS) this is prevented or limited where possible.

A management system for feed safety that prevents all incidents is impossible. Within the GMP+ certification scheme, the Early Warning System (EWS) therefore forms an important safety net.

Via EWS, GMP+ certified companies confidentially report irregularities. This allows GMP+ International to act quickly as soon as hazards or risks arise in the production chain. Notifications received are assessed, and where necessary, GMP+ FSA participants will receive a warning about the product involved.

What's in an EWS notification?
In these warnings – participants receive a message by e-mail – the product involved (generic name), the undesirable substance(s) and value(s) detected are specified, as well as the country of origin. Details of the company involved are never published.

Even when a situation is under control, GMP+ International can still decide to publish the warning. This allows participating companies to learn from the mistakes, so that similar cases can be prevented in the future.

Joint responsibility
EWS warnings, gathered information and other risk communication contributes to good risk management (monitoring and analyses). The knowledge obtained is combined with other relevant information and leads to improvement of the GMP+ FSA-module, the certification and compliance assessment process, risk communication and other operations.

The production of safe feed is a joint responsibility, but every organization involved has its own role and responsibilities. EWS warnings help participants take the proper measures in preventing or controlling hazards. More information is available in GMP+ BA5 Minimum requirements EWS.
